I do hope that Australia, Japan and the nations who, predominantly, caused the disaster to exist, think hard about what responsibility they have in providing homes for those whom THEY have displaced.

This is a kind thing to do for those who really can't go home again. Because of the environmental disaster known as global warming and the hole in the ozone layer above Aus and surrounding islands, this beautiful island is sinking and its residents made homeless.

Help. Period!

Hello,

The name of the electrician who wired up most people homes, businesses and dairies in Maleny in the 1940's was Jack Sallaway. Not Callaway.
I can't remember him being at the Up Front Club as I remember George Gibson building the shop next door which became an electrical repair shop. Jack later build a shop with his residence on top in Coral St. The building seems to be a residence now, with the shop unused. It's where Coral St runs into Wootha Rd, where all the construction is happening now in Coral St.
Thanks,
Desley

Hi Pat and Kay - wonderful to hear about all that marvellous rain falling over Maleny - just a shame that we're still here and not able to enjoy it in person. Thanks for these interesting snippets about the past and the amazing pioneers who settled the region - clearly they came from tough and stoic stock - reading many of the items you include on the site reminds us to be grateful for their efforts in the past. thanks as always for helping make home seem that little bit closer :-) Stay well and happy. cheers from Kim and Jim

Hi Pat and Kay - thanks for making this site even more interesting than before - and for the option of chatting with others. Pepper, shortly after I moved to Maleny about 6 years ago the rain stopped in its tracks for about 6 weeks. Like you I was very much taken with the consistently good rainfall in the area and it was certainly a major factor we considered before purchasing a new home. When I was at the Farm Barn one day, lamenting on this apparent drought and questioning if I had made a bad move, one of Maleny's long term residents looked at me and said "it'll rain again - they don't call this place MaRAINY for nothing". And of course he was quite correct. Move here, put up with the occasional dry spells and remember that in no time at all you'll be complaining about the rain and the mould like the rest of us.

All the best from Kim (still in the Middle East Pat, and still missing home, green grass - (heck, any grass) - clear star filled nights and good clean mountain air.
