Foggiest June for 40 years
Weekly Summary 24.6.08
On Wednesday 18th the week started with a couple of early morning dense fogs. We are having the foggiest June for 40 years. On Friday it was interesting to see the early morning International jets stacked up over the Blackall range waiting for instructions from Brisbane Airport control tower; an unusual sight to see at Maleny. Later the same day, thunder clouds rolled in and we had a thunderstorm at 3.30pm when some large raindrops put 16 mm of rain into the gauge at the rate of 120 mm per hour. This brings the month’s total rainfall to 223 mm, representing 116 mm over the 115 year average for June. The cloudless skies at the latter end of the week brought early morning Dew, 34 hours of Bright Sunshine and a UV index of Moderate 3
OUTLOOK The Weather Bureau’s synoptic charts for the remainder of the week indicate a large anticyclone centred over eastern Australia and this will continue to dominate our weather into the weekend. As the south east winds freshen there is a possibility of a few isolated coastal showers penetrating the dry stable atmosphere above the region.
