MALENY ILLUMINATED

Electricity came to Maleny town centre in February 1940. Maleny electrician, (Jack) Callaway wired most people’s homes; he had an electrical shop in Maple Street, now the Up Front Club

    Hello,

The name of the electrician who wired up most people homes, businesses and dairies in Maleny in the 1940’s was Jack Sallaway. Not Callaway.
I can’t remember him being at the Up Front Club as I remember George Gibson building the shop next door which became an electrical repair shop. Jack later build a shop with his residence on top in Coral St. The building seems to be a residence now, with the shop unused. It’s where Coral St runs into Wootha Rd, where all the construction is happening now in Coral St.
    Thanks,
    Desley
