Monsoon to Reach Mumbai Soon

The India Meteorological Department has forecast that the monsoon system could reach Mumbai in the next two or three days, following a fresh spurt in its activity. After remaining dormant for nearly two weeks, the system has now started advancing. The normal date for the onset over Mumbai is 10 June.

This has been the longest wait for the monsoon in two decades. Before this, the longest delay had been in 2005 when the monsoon hit the city on 19 June.

New Zealand Alliance for Antarctic Research

Three New Zealand organizations, GNS Science(a government-owned research institution), Victoria University of Wellington and the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) have signed an agreement to expand collaborative research into the climate of the Antarctic and its influence on the Earth system.

The new alliance acknowledges, in particular, the increasing collaboration in climate research based on information derived from ice and sediment cores. It also reflects the synergies of ice, ocean, and climate models in testing scientific findings.
